Wow! It is hard to believe
that 8 weeks have already passed. I remember when I first started this course,
I had anxiety. I was so nervous that I would not find the perfect topic for my
capstone project. But thankful that was not the case. Completing this masters
program is one of the most major moments in my life. This year has brought a
lot of happiness. In April, the love of my love proposed. In June, my job
promoted me to the curriculum specialist. And in August I completed my Masters
in Early Childhood Studies. I am so excited to see what life continues to
bring.
Through this program, I have
learned so much about myself as a person, but most of all, as a professional
within the early childhood field. There was many challenges and sacrifices that
came along the way. It was not an easy road, but, I am very thankful that I had
a support system that kept me grounded throughout this journey. This week I
took some time to reread some of my old assignments and I could see my growth
to this very moment.
One of my favorite courses in
this program was EDUC 6164 Perspectives on Diversity and Equity. I really
admired this class because we are living in a very diverse world. There is so
much to consider about a person besides the color of their skin. This course
has taught me that diversity is so much more. Such as your own social
identities and background. Diversity is a very board topic; there is so much
information that surrounds us. The essences of it all is being able to apply
those resources to ensure our students and their families feel as though they
are respected and that they belong.
A long-term goal for me is to
apply the information that I have learned along the way. Another long-term goal
is to be a continuous learner. It is essential to me to make sure that I am
resourceful. I greatly value adult learning within the field, and I want to
make sure that I am capable of building more leaders and professionals within
the early childhood field.
I
am very thankful for this program because it allowed me to connect with some
fantastic people. Thank you to my colleagues for sharing their experiences,
their thoughts, and most of all, their feedback to my post. I truly enjoyed
reading and learning your viewpoints on different topics. It has definitely
allowed me to look at various issues and topics from a different view. I was
also able to learn so much for each of you. And for that, I am truly grateful!
I am excited to see what the future has in store for each for us and for the
early childhood field.
It
has been an honor to have Dr. Embree for 3 of my courses within this journey. I
had Dr. E as my first professor, and now I am ending my masters journey with
her. How cool is that? Through your dedication, Dr. E, Walden University seems
to be a great place of employment 😉! Dr. E I would like to thank you so much
for being that professor that was always genuine. Your feedback and positivity
contributed significantly to my success. THANK YOU DR.E!!!!!!!!!
Classmates?? WE DID IT!!!! I wish you all great success
with your professional journey. I believe that Walden University has greatly
prepared us to be excellent leaders within the early childhood field. Please
keep me subscribed on your blog feed. I plan to continue to share my thoughts
and different resources as it relates to the field.
Best Wishes,

Hi Kiara,
ReplyDeleteYes, we did it!!! What glorious words to type. You have had a wonderful year thus far both professionally and personally. This has been an amazing journey and I am grateful for all I am taking with me. Your comments on diversity really hit home for me because it is a topic I was not expecting to discuss so much (not sure why). I am walking away from my time at Walden wanting to learn more about diversity and how to create an anti-biased environment. I am deeply committed to the idea that more needs to be done and I am willing to say something in support. Best of luck to you, I would love to continue reading your blog in the future and see how you are doing. I like your comment about working at Walden...I won't lie, it has crossed my mind, too! Take care and enjoy your sweet family!

Hi Kiara,
ReplyDeleteThis indeed have been an amazing eight week journey. I have been inspired as well by many of our colleagues and Dr. Embree. The information that I have obtained these last 2 years is connecting and have uncovered a great need to advocate for children and families and the wider community. Congratulations on both your new journeys in life. May God continue to uphold your union and direct your path in life.
God's blessings~Marie
