Using Social Media to Get Connected

In this new era and time social media is a very popular way to spread awareness and to network with others. Since I began my adventure in Early Childhood, I often use social media to learn about another’s experiences. I follow different organizations within my state and around the world that support young children and their families. My colleagues and I use Facebook to share new policy’s that take place in early childhood and to share blogs of other professionals. Sometimes I use social media to pose different questions about the EC field to learn the views of others.

As I am progressing within the program, I have learned a lot about the importance of early childhood education. Through the insight I have gained, I use Facebook to share my thoughts about information I have learned. Through this interaction, I have friends from different parts of the world who tune in to share their thoughts about a topic that I pose on my page. It is very interesting because not only do I learn their viewpoints, but I learn how different professions have some ties to the EC field. For example, one week I posed the question “how does your profession support the EC field. One of my colleagues who is a fire fighter shared how they volunteer at different childcare centers to educate young children about fire safety. They extended the awareness by offering parents the opportunity to have a fire fighter to come into their home to check their fire alarms.
