Profile of a Volunteer

There are many efforts made to support the needs of children and their families in my community as well as around the world. A few years ago, my Aunt gave birth to my cousin who was born 2 months early and she later learned that he had Muscular dystrophy. We come from a small town and many resources that we needed were at least 2 ½ hours away. So, for months my aunt would travel back and forth to his doctors’ appointments and surgeries. Sadly, my cousin’s health started to become worst and he became hospitalized. The weekly trips became overnight stays in the hospital. My family and I are very thankful for the Ronald McDonald House because it provided my family (aunt and uncle) somewhere to stay during this difficult time. Before my cousin was able to turn one year old, he passed away. This year Cameron would have been 6 years old. The support and love that the volunteers provided for my family was a blessing. Since my cousin’s passing my aunt and uncle give their thanks by volunteering multiple times throughout the year. Two years ago, I have the pleasure of baking cookies with some families at the Ronald McDonald house. Even though, many families were dealing with many hardships of their own the environment was very loving. I am hoping to join my family more when they volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House.

  1. Thanks for sharing your story! I have heard of Ronald McDonald House but never really researched the work that this organization did, its amazing to read and learn about various organizations that has touched someone's life personally. I did also notice that this was Chapel Hill, is that Chapel Hill, North Carolina?
