- Which issues impacting young children and their families and/or the field of early childhood fuel your passion?
Overall bringing awareness of the benefits that are associated with early education serves as my motivation. All children should have the opportunity to attend early childhood programs. Having the foundation built at an early age is a stepping stone for their future learning. My mentor always stress to me the importance of investing in our future (our youth). There are many issues to try to tackle in this field to ensure that our children are setup to be successful. But, understanding where it all starts and building the foundation is important.
- What special skills do you have that will contribute to your advocacy efforts? How will you incorporate these skills into your work?
Skills that would contribute to my advocacy efforts would be the willingness to keep learning. It is very important to be knowledgeable of the issues and the resources that you want to focus on. Also networking, being able go into the community and talk with other individuals that also affect the lives of the children and families that we serve. By the end of this year, I would like to be actively involved with one local nonprofit organization that focus on improving the quality of early learning programs.
- What knowledge, skills, dispositions, and/or talents do you possess that will contribute to your advocacy work?
The love and passion that I have for this field motivations me to want to do advocacy work. Having the chance to be in this graduate program and learning how different EC advocates took their approach to make changes in the field pushing me harder. I always approach different task with an open mind, that is one of the skills that my boss admires about me. Working with individuals who has a positive mindset will definitely help when we come across barriers when doing advocacy work.
