One hope that I have when I think about working with
children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is being capable of
ensuring that all children and their families is treated fairly and equally.
This hope does not just start and end with me. So therefore, I would like to
start networking more with my co-workers by providing related information,
sharing personal experiences and ect. I
also want to make sure that all staff involved with the children and families
can put their biases to the side and focus on doing what is best for each young
child.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field
related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is to provide more
practical materials for teachers who want to start teaching multicultural
curriculum and social justice. It is important that teachers and educators are
supported with great research-based practices that help them present these
topics of discrimination, prejudice, and bias to children within an
age-appropriate range. Many teachers, like myself who are just learning about
the importance of creating safe, diverse environments of social justice must
have supporting materials, resources, and curriculum to assist us with
implementing the information in a most beneficial way for our children and
their families.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues
who have been on this journey with me throughout this course. Dr. Russell,
thank you for creating a safe platform and learning environment for me to grow
professionally and personally. I have learned so much from all of the early childhood
professionals in this course, as they shared their experiences, and knowledge. I
have truly enjoyed learning from you all. I would like to wish you all the best
of luck with your journey at Walden but most importantly best wishes as we continue
to make a difference within the ECE field.
Hi Kiara. It's very important that we get more involved on doing things with the multicultural because we don't want them to feel left out. It's very important to treat everyone with the same respect. We are there to make a difference with the children and it's all about the children and the families. We want to make sure that our children are successful. I have learned a lot from this course and thank you for sharing information as well. Best wishes to you moving forward.
ReplyDeleteKiara,
ReplyDeleteEvidence-based teaching is essential for teaching strategies and principles associated with age-appropriate cultural diversity educational programs. Using evidence- and research-based programs assists with improving learning, engagement, attitudes, and overcoming biases of the children, their families, and early childhood educators.
Wishing you well,
Donna
Kiara,
ReplyDeleteEducators can benefit from more multicultural based materials and professional development, as this class has been a stepping stone for me to learn new information about diversity, equity, and social justice. Having the extra support will help, like you stated, to create "safe, diverse environments of social justice" and an inclusive, multicultural curriculum. I wish you well as you continue on your journey at Walden University!
