“Will & Grace” is a television show that I never watched
before. Watching this episode with no sound very interesting. I did find a
little challenging at the beginning because I did not know the characters or any
history about the show. However, once I took my mind away from trying to figure
out the history of the sitcom, I started to focus on the nonverbal cues of body
movements, facial expressions and eye contact. What I took from the watching
the show with the sound off was based on a conflict with one character who was
sharing news that could have been disappointing. While the other half of the show
seemed to be surround by a completion between three friends.
Watching the show with sound was much better. Grace in the
is episode had the opportunity to spend time with her Father on a road trip. Grace and her Father had a heated conversation
about a mishap that happened in the past between her and her father’s best
friend. Grace’s father was in denial and refused to hear the story until he seen
the pain in his daughter’s eyes. The second
of half of the sitcom was a battle between Karen and Will for the Best Man title
of their mutual friend Jack. The two competed against each other at a gay bar
by lip singing and acting out different scenarios from spinning the wheel. The
first competition ending up being a tie so, the two had to battle between who
knew Jack the best. In the end Jack decided to make gay marriage different and have
not one but two best men. The episode had a ton of funny moments.
What I learn from the “OOOWEE” moment was nonverbal cues can
be very power. For the first time watching this sitcom I think that I did good with
my assumptions about the story line. I will definitely try this activity again
to see if I am as good with my assumptions a second time around.
Hello Kiara,
ReplyDeleteGod to know that you did well with your assumptions finding that you were not very far from the reality in the show.
I could not have imagine before this course, that communication is our every moment companion in life.
All the best.
Hi Kiara-
ReplyDeleteI watched this show when it was on the first time, and I loved it. It was my first introduction to lifestyles that were different than mine. Were all of your interpretations of non-verbal cues correct? I was off on a few of mine in my viewing with the sound off. Non-verbal communication is powerful, but can we rely on it exclusively and still understand the message?
