For this week’s blog post, I decided to choose celebrity Queen Latifah.
I first started admiring “The Queen” as I call her from the music industry. My mother
was a big fan and she would always play her music around the house. Majority of
her music surrounded the issues of African American women. Queen Latifah is a
very dedicated and multi-talented person. In addition to the Rap industry she was
the star of several hit tv shows, movies and other endorsements such as CoverGirl.
When I was in undergrad she a made a visit to our campus to speak with the women about knowing our worth. When she speaks it is direct and clear and I
absolutely love watching her work throughout the industry. Through her own
battles of life, with losing her brother, depression and being on drugs, she
uses those moments to help build her confidence within herself. Queen Latifah recently
partnership with Strayer University, to inspire and support individuals to seek
higher education. Through her message
she has made it very clear that success does not come easy and one should never
stop growing because of those obstacles.
I would say the reason I admire “The Queen” so much is because she
used her life experiences to make her into the strong built person she is today.
She did not let those short comings being her down. Instead, she used them as
steps to move forward. She has helped many other women
including myself overcome obstacles.
It is my hopes to learn how to model some of the communication behaviors
after Queen Latifah. I would like to use my own life experiences to share as a
way to inspire others.
