Racism

Racism in the United States

It saddens me that racism still exist after these years. Leaders have fought and last their lives for other generations to not have to experience the hardship that they went through. For the past 9 years I have seen racism take a turn for the worst. I believe that we are failing as being united and standing as one against racism. It makes me extremely upset that I have to raise my child in country that is still stuck on being hateful towards individuals based on the color of their skin. I believe that children do not see race, it is something that is taught. If we continue to display/teach this negativity will never end.

Racism in South Africa

Sadly, racism is everywhere. In South Africa, children were focused to go to separate schools within the own neighborhoods. Some children were left suffering and uneducated because of this. Even though Nelson Mandela passed a law in 1994 to end racial segregation, there are still some school today that are not diverse.  Some schools opened their doors, but did not change their attitudes for the better. South Africa has 11 languages, but schools would only offer English and another language. Many Black students did not have the opportunity to learn or speak their own native language within the school. Based on the information in the article, 2016 there was a big gap between unemployment for black people and white people in South Africa. 39% of black people were unemployment and only 8.3% of white people were unemployment. I would love to see the day when racism will be considered something of the past.

“Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome.”
― Rosa Parks

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog. I was shocked at the facts you presented about racism in South Africa. I do agree with you that racism is a taught behavior. I also would love to see the day when it is in the past for good.

  2. It's crazy to think that a law would change the way people behave and act! But in reality is won't, it has to come from the person within. I believe racism is taught too, because children are going to play with children regardless, starting at the youngest age of infant years, and the only person to tell a child that is wrong to play with something other than their color is their parent or someone close to them . As much the world in many different parts still has hate I will teach my daughter love, because you never know when you will need someone !!
